About the Event
"Osteoclast lineage autonomous and non-autonomous actions of the NLRP3 inflammasome" presented by Gabriel Mbalaviele, Department of Medicine, Division of Bone and Mineral Diseases, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, USA; Chaired by Prof. Anna Teti, DISCAB, University of L’Aquila.
Prof. Mbalaviele will provide evidence that:
i. Inflammasomes are involved in bone resorption
ii. The NLRP3 inflammasome is inactive in osteoclasts, but can be activated in these cells by calcium influxes
iii. We have identified a couple of proteins that regulate this inflammasome not only in immune cells such as macrophages, but also osteoclasts.
